In this issue of SSAIB News we have concentrated a little more on fire issues. This is an area of growing significance for us and we felt it was time to bring it to the fore. While discussion on the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order has been ongoing for sometime, it seems that there are still plenty of questions outstanding relating to the role of the ‘responsible person’ and the nature of the fire risk assessment. I will pretend that we have answered them all here, but hopefully we have shed a little light on the subject with the help of Terry Martiny, Marketing Manager at BAFE, and our own Geoff Rendall, who is responsible internally for our fire systems certification scheme.
For our core sector, electronic security systems, we have provided an update on standards, courtesy of David Profit, Technical Manager at SSAIB. Jim Winter, an ASCOM partner in the UK, addresses some questions on the IP solutions and ponders if it is a ‘black art’ or an ideal solution for the fire and security installer.
The 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations, which come into effect on the 1st July 2008, may hold implications for security and fire safety systems in dwellings. ECA has issued some guidance on this and we have reprinted here for your information.
Dr John Porteous provides us with the latest on 21CN – which, while “It’s happening right now”, is not happening as originally forecast; John reviews the developments.
There a sprinkling of industry news and an update on developments in the SIA ACS scheme and its counterpart in the Republic of Ireland, the PSA Licensing Scheme.
