Guarding security services encompasses:
- Static guarding service and Mobile patrol
- Keyholding and response services
- Security screening
- Management and operation of CCTV monitoring services
- Door Supervision
The private security industry has attracted Government attention in recent years as it is a massive provider of security services. Increasingly, it is seen as part of the 'wider Police family' and such had a vital role to play in the prevention of crime and, more recently, terrorism.
Through the Security Industry Authority (SIA), Government has moved to tighten control of contractors (companies) and individuals offering their services in this sector. It is argued that industry must be more proactive in seeking voluntary certification for its services, in order to demonstrate professionalism, good management and an ethical approach. SSAIB certification will enable you to demonstrate these.
SSAIB is a SIA Approved Assessment Body.
SSAIB’s Guarding Services certification scheme is recognised by Insurers and UKAS. Whilst this scheme requires providers to demonstrate that they operate a management system which satisfies SSAIB's scheme criteria, it does not require certification to ISO 9001 along with relevant BS Assessment. However, for guarding service providers SSAIB recommends certification of management systems to ISO 9001.
Guarding service providers who demonstrate product and management systems compliance will have greater market acceptance, as they will have an awareness of all the management and service product standards required to operate a professional and ethical guarding business. The licencing of security services providers which is aimed at raising standards evaluates providers against both of these elements.
