Scheme Details - Door Supervisors

BS 7960 – Door Supervisors Code of Practice, provides recommendations for the organisation, staffing, management and operation of companies providing door supervisory services to licensed premises, other locations and/or events.

The code also gives recommendations to other individuals, companies, organisations and designated premises operators who provide or employ door supervisors.

The current version of this code of practice takes into account the requirements of the Private Security Industry Act 2001 with respect to the licensing of individuals and contractors who provide services in this sector.  Whilst the SIA scheme requirements are based on the European Quality Foundation Model (EFQM), the code of practice addresses, amongst other things, the following operational and management issues:

  • How the organisation is structured, including a complaints management system
  • Insurance cover requirements
  • How companies should make service calls
  • What information should be supplied to prospective clients before providing the service – details should include: contract terms and conditions; details on the uniform worn by staff and references.
  • Undertaking a Risk Assessment of the licensed premises, other location and/or event supervised
  • Contingency plans in the event of an accident
  • Selection and screening of staff

Companies approved against the requirements of this code of practice will also need to hold the need to satisfy SIA licensing requirements, but will find synergy between the requirements listed above and those required by the SIA.
